Delta TechOps Completes 1st Airbus A330-200 Retrofit Fuel Tank Inerting System (FTIS) Modifications for Hawaiian Airlines

ATLANTA, June 17, 2013 – Delta TechOps’ maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) business recently completed its first fuel tank inerting systems (FTIS) modification work on Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330-200 aircraft, and is now offering the modification work to other A330-200 operators.

This FTIS modification represents the first retrofit in the industry on an Airbus A330-200 aircraft already in service as well as the first time an aircraft has had the work done outside the aircraft manufacturer’s facilities.

“The expertise required of this critical FTIS work is highly specialized and the Delta TechOps team can offer customers a compelling solution for operators ahead of the compliance deadlines,” said Peter Turner, vice president – Delta TechOps MRO Services. “We look forward to offering this service to additional customers ahead of the 2017 deadline for A330-200 operators.”

Delta TechOps completed the modifications per the directive requirements on two Hawaiian Airlines aircraft in conjunction with C2 check work ahead of schedule, allowing the customer to return the aircraft to revenue service sooner than planned.

Aviation regulatory bodies around the world have issued directives for operators of Airbus A330-200 series aircraft that require installation of Fuel Tank Inerting Systems (FTIS) to ensure their continued safe operation over the life of the aircraft. The nitrogen generating system mod is required on all A330-200. The directives say operators must modify half of total fleets by Dec 26, 2014 and all by Dec. 26, 2017. Approximately 500 aircraft in service across the world will require the modification, though the FTIS adjustments come standard on all factory-new A330-200 aircraft.
